Rivlo

Questions

Questions, answered.

Do I have to connect my bank?

No, but it’s the easiest way in.

Every account at each bank you connect can come in with its balance. Bank connection through Flinks is the paid plan. Price announced before launch. Importing your statements instead is free.

What does Connected add, what will it cost, and how does Rivlo make money?

Your banks connect through Flinks, with every account and its balance.

You get up to a year of history when you connect, depending on your bank. You update with one tap. Your bank may ask for its usual verification code. Some banks ask you to sign in again from time to time. Statements always work as a backup. The price will be announced before launch, and founding members hear first. Rivlo makes its money from Connected, the paid plan. It never sells your data or uses it for advertising, so subscriptions are the whole business. Everything that works from your statements stays free.

Which banks work?

You can connect Canadian and US banks through Flinks, on the paid plan.

Statements from BMO, CIBC, TD, RBC and Scotiabank (chequing and credit cards) and Wealthsimple TFSA are verified. Tangerine, Simplii, EQ Bank and American Express are set up from their documented file formats, not yet confirmed with real statements. Desjardins, PC Financial, Canadian Tire, Rogers Bank and KOHO have import guides. Anything else can try the general CSV importer.

Does Rivlo use AI?

Only in Smart categories, which is optional and asks before it sends anything. No AI decides your plan, bills, check-up or suggestions.

Rivlo’s own engine sorts every transaction first: your choices and rules, its list of Canadian merchants, and your bank’s codes. Only businesses it doesn’t recognize go to Smart categories, which uses AI from OpenAI to sort the name and, if needed, a Google web lookup. Smart categories is optional and asks before it sends anything. Your plan, bills, check-up and suggestions are always worked out by Rivlo’s engine. No AI decides them. The engine is Rivlo’s own software: it sorts the transactions it recognizes, finds recurring bills and pay, pairs transfers between your accounts, tracks your pace, and builds your plan, check-up and suggestions. It doesn’t send your numbers to an AI service. Smart categories sends the business name from your statement, the account type, whether money came in or went out, and for a web lookup, the city when it’s a known place name. Never amounts or balances, dates, your name or email, account numbers, full statement descriptions, or names of people in your e-Transfers. Both services may process this outside Canada. Turn Smart categories off any time in Settings. Rivlo’s engine keeps sorting, and new businesses wait for you.

Where is my data, and who can see it?

In a Canadian region, encrypted in transit and at rest by our hosting provider.

Each account can only read its own data. A few things are processed outside Canada: the business names Smart categories sends (OpenAI and Google), the emails we send you (Resend), and our website and its visit counts (Cloudflare). Flinks keeps Canadian users’ connection data in Canadian data centres. It keeps US users’ in US data centres, outside Canada. Rivlo never sells your data or uses it for advertising.

Is connecting through Flinks safe?

You connect through Flinks, and Rivlo never sees your bank password.

Where your bank offers it, you connect through the bank’s own secure sign-in. Otherwise you sign in on Flinks’ screen with your online-banking login, and some banks’ agreements ask you not to share it, so check yours if you’re unsure.

Is Rivlo a bank, or financial advice?

Rivlo never holds or moves money, and it isn’t financial advice.

It shows what your own numbers say, with directional suggestions. You decide.

Can I export my data or delete my account?

Yes, both from inside the app, any time.

They’re never paywalled.

How is Rivlo different from other budgeting apps?

Rivlo brings every account into one plan.

It’s made in Canada, for Canadian money: it reads the statement files Canada’s big banks actually produce, recognizes Canadian businesses, and knows an Interac e-Transfer when it sees one. Your plan, bills, pay and check-up are worked out by Rivlo itself, not by AI, and your data is stored in Canada. Only Smart categories ever sends any of your financial details out: business names Rivlo doesn’t recognize and a few details, never your amounts, dates or account numbers. And it asks first.

What can’t Rivlo do yet?

A few things, honestly:

  • Run on the web. Early access starts on your phone; a web version is planned.
  • Share one plan with a partner.
  • Track investment holdings or returns. It reads each account’s balance only.
